Bugs and other lovely things in South Africa

EEEK! Found this crazy large creature on my desk at the office.

What is this thing?!?
We are amazed at how South Africans balance their loads on the top of their heads.

It's Missionary Leadership Council again (MLC). Lunch started at 12:00 pm with BBQ sandwiches, chips, apples, carrot sticks, and Congo bars.

After lunch, The zone leaders met with President and Sister Dunn and the APs for some intense leadership training that lasted from 12:45 pm until 4:00 pm. They come away with lots of ideas. Sister Dunn always sends them home with her homemade bread and honey butter.

............................................................................
The new mission messenger bags have started arriving! We had a shipment of 42 arrive earlier this week. They are custom manufactured by a South African company, owned by a church member.

Elder Koyle and Elder Worton are trying them on for size.

But Elder Worton didn't know when.....

to......

42!! STOP!

We love our three APs!!

........................................................
On our walk the other day we noticed this tree's root system had come up out of the ground.
Kind of cool looking.

And noticed this unusual flower

Autumn has hit South Africa

The acorns remind me of home

This is an amazing cactus bloom

..........................................................

Came to the office to find this on my desk. The Thompsons left a lovely African made apron. I will add a photo of the apron later. They are so thoughtful.

We went to dinner and this sky followed us most of the way

Photos outside the restaurant. Notice the celebrities signing their signatures?

I ordered ostrich fillet. It was so good. Tasted like an expensive, tender beef steak.

Elder Allred ordered Kingklip. Kingklip is one of the most popular eating fish in South Africa. It occurs in deep water off the coast of South Africa, from Namibia to the Eastern Cape, usually on rock ground (its name comes from the old Dutch word “koningklipvisch” which translates as “king of the rock fishes”).
Although a kingklip resembles an eel, its body is not round in cross section. It is tinged with a light pink colour and covered in irregular brown blotches. Kingklip can grow to 150 cm in length. Sorry for the lesson on kingklip :/
Elder Allred said it was delicious.

Elder Thompson had lamb. It looks so good.

Sister Thompson has salmon with orange sauce. Yum!

Allreds

President and Sister Dunn. Sister Dunn ordered ostrich and President Dunn ordered risotto.

The Thompsons

After dinner we all ordered yummy gourmet desserts. We ordered Trio

crème brûlée. One vanilla, one chocolate, and one with berries.

It even came with a sparkler for the birthday celebration.

.

President and Sister Dunn ordered
                           WHITE CHOCOLATE BRÛLÉE TART
Served with berry preserve, dark chocolate ganache
                                        and vanilla pod cream

The Thompsons ordered:
                                  STICKY TOFFEE PUDDING

Baked sticky toffee pudding served with homemade ice-cream,                          cherry truffle shooter, frangelico stewed fruit
                                      and butterscotch sauce

Report was, all were equally tasty, and the night was wonderful. There was live soft jazz music that added such a lovely 'note' to the evening, and this magical night will be remembered for a lifetime.
