The Rumsig ward held a cook off on 'Youth Day'
In South Africa, a potjie /pˈɔɪkiː/, directly translated "pottle or little pot" from Afrikaans or Dutch, is unlike most other Dutch ovens, in that it is round bottomed. Traditionally, it is a single cast, cast iron pot, reinforced with external double or triple circumscribing ribs, a wire handle for suspending the pot, and three short legs for resting the pot. It is similar in appearance to a cauldron. It has a cast iron lid with a recessed convex contour to allow for hot coals to lay on top, so that the pot may also be heated from above, and a handle.
This is similar to American dutch oven cooking. It was fun to see the yummy dishes they were preparing.
Wish I could have tried the final product, but a few sisters headed out for a girl's day. First we went to Bryanston Organic Market where all merchandise is organically made or grown. Love these little hand woven bags.
An African band played while we ate yummy
mini tarts with quiche filling.
We left the market and headed to the country to enjoy a lovely visit to a country home that was turned into an antique market with the creative husband who makes large pots on site. Beautiful jewelry was also on site.
So loving these pots. Think I could fit one in my suitcase?? |

Father's Day at the Cluster: Wonderful Sacrament meeting, primary children singing to the fathers, and a yummy treat of soup, dumbolo, and Congo bars.
We all enjoy taking time to eat and visit after Sunday meetings :)
